Yesterday I noticed a blue bee/wasp entering a small hole between the stones on my back yard patio. I didn't want a wasp nest on my property (against HOA regulations) so I dug it out and found some leaf cutter bee cocoons. I have never seen one of the bees before but I recognize their cocoons and have been told they are a beneficial species.
The bee who was attending to the cocoons seems to have abandoned it (she was none too happy that I dug up her nest) and I would like to save these bees if possible.
I cannot attach a picture of the cocoons but they are about 4 inches long, thick as a pencil and look kind of like spring rolls wrapped with leaves. They are hidden from birds and the sun by the same rock I found them under.
How should I intervene?
