Granulated beet sugar and granulated cane sugar are interchangeable and fine to use for bee syrup.

What you should avoid feeding is brown sugars (including molasses, and 'organic' sugars that are not white). The issue with brown sugars is that there are solids in those sugars, and those solids are indigestible by bees. That is mostly a problem when the weather prevents bees from flying (and pooping).

In either case none of the evil whatever in GMO crops that you're afraid of will make it through the refining process. In the end sucrose is sucrose.
