I have just a single block of capping wax, but I have many blocks of brood wax. Can I use the brown wax to coat plastic foundation? Will it work as well as the capping wax? The brood wax doesnt good like the honey wax.

Thanks
Nick

Yes, as long as it it from disease-free hives. You can try to filter the wax from paper towel. That would clear it up somewhat.

You could also put the dark wax in a pot of hot water and some of the junk may come out.

I have put wax under a filter (metal screen in a ring) in a pot of hot water and it filtered most of the junk out nicely as the wax floated up thru the filter.

You can try! I did.....but brood comb is different stuff to honey comb.
I found it just did not want to go onto the plastic SC frames no matter how I tried, it did just sort of smear a bit, but not coat them.
I'd love to learn how to use this cos i have a softball sized lump that I'd rather not use as firestarters.
