Agree with Ed but would also add that you'll find it easier to work your colonies if they are a few feet apart and even on different stands. I have each of my larger colonies on their own stand and keep them 3 feet apart so I can work the hive from either side or the back. Plus it gives me some room to set the supers off the hive. Available space will be your guide. Commercial guys keep 4 on a pallet.
