I have installed a new package of bees last Saturday and am using a top hive feeder. I have noticed the bees are building comb inside the screened area of this feeder. What should I do?
Mine always build a burr comb ladder towards the center. I trust that they are organizing the house for efficiency and leave it. They don't make many mistakes, me on the other hand...
I just started a new hive with a hive top feeder. I put the inner cover on and then the hive top feeder on top of that to prevent them building comb there. They will need to go to the inner cover hole to get the feed. I rather have them build the comb on the frames and not waste it on the screened area.
Mine are doing this as well, although my feeder doesn't have a screen. I removed it (burr comb) last week when I inspected, but noticed more today when I lifted the TC to check the syrup level.
Maybe I'll just leave it there next time.
