I was on Craigslist a couple of weeks ago and saw an ad for 4 beehives for $200.I e-mailed back and got a call from a guy who said his father in law had passed away suddenly and they wanted to sell his bees.He said they really just wanted to be rid of them.It took me almost a week to catch up with the guy(he worked nights)and the anticipation about killed me.When I got there he had 6 hives and they were so full of honey that they couldnt be moved. He told me $200 for all of them.I asked about if they had any spare equipment to sell and thats when I met his mother in law.The widow was an old oriental lady and she showed me an extractor and a grocers tank and some other spare hive bodies so I ended up making a deal with her to buy everything for $800.As I started loading it out she kept digging junk out of the basement so by the time she was done I got 6 full hives of bees,a power extractor,a water heated grocers tank,a wire embedder,an electric uncapping knife, about 15 additional complete hives, and 3 complete double deep nucs not to mention about 6 boxes of wax and 60 frames already assembled with wax and a smoker and hive tool and the list keeps going.I flipped her another $100 when I was leaving.I already pulled 15 gallons of honey off of them so I could move them and she even gave me some jars to put it in.I am feeling very blessed.

Hemichuck,

Yes, you are absolutely blessed and you were a blessing to find such a stash of equipment plus the hives. It was good of you to give her the extra $100.00

Still a magnificent deal to you, you could afford to be a little more generous.

Good for you for taking care of the widows. I hope my wife will be blessed some day if I should pass before her.

I'm only 65-70 miles South of you. I'm very envious of you cause it could have been me. I need to check craigs list more often. Hadn't looked for about a month. I hope you continue to have good luck!!

A once in a lifetime opportunity.

I'm with MapMan - send her some honey and a nice card with some info on how much you appreciate the bees and how the equipment is very much appreciated.

Congrats to you, I'm very jelous.

Valleyman,My father in law grew up in Munfordsville and Cub Run.My wife was born in Horse Cave. They are probably related to you,Lord knows their related to everybody else in Kentucky.I'll have to get down there and meet you sometime. The lady I got the hives from actually wanted to buy some honey from me.I told her that when I got it bottled I would bring her some. You really do have to check craigslist everyday because stuff comes and goes quick.
