Traveling this week in Boston and the Cambridge, Mass. area. Walked by what I believe is an Azelia bush (spelling) and saw what looked like a very big bumble bee but upon closer inspection, I realized it had a solid yellow upper abdomen and a solid black lower abdomen. I believe I have read this bee described as a Carpenter Bee.

I whipped out my cell phone but the bee flew off before I could take the photo.

I'm always looking for bees now. I love it.

I'm thinking of building a structure just for carpenter bees to nest in. My luck they will build their numbers and start boring holes in my house! I keep it painted so they leave it alone <smile>.:D
