Hello

Quick question, yesterday afternoon I noticed my bee's working on what looks like some kind of wax or oil from the leaves of my Japanese Magnolia tree's.

Is this one of their normal activities/likes?

If the tree has some disease, such as scale, there might be a number of pests that produce honeydew that can attract bees. I'm not aware whether these trees have any kind of sugar component, so I'll let the horticulturists chime in on that.
