I started 13 hives from nucs about 30 days ago. Normally when I go to the bee yard I normally in past years notice numerous bees going and coming from all directions. This year they do not seem to be actively foraging but rather appear to stay around the hive entrance and it looks like they are taking orientation flights. As expected they are more active with orientation flights in the later part of the day. My inspection of random hives indicates healthy hives, with larve, new comb etc.I can never see eggs. Is there any explanation as to why I am not seeing the bees heading out to forage except in very limited numbers. It is in the low 90" the last few days. Would appreciate your thoughts. My preliminary thought is that the bees I am seeing are a result of the brood from the nuclear hives, and the hives are still low on bees until the new bees come as a result of the queens laying in her new home hives.
