I found online that placing a block of salt outside will keep bees away from watchers. They are attracted to people because they use salt for curing honey, and on a hot summer day, any person will be placing it for grabs on the outside of their body. Do they really NEED salt? If so, how would they usually get salt in nature, and by nature I mean not salt water swimming pools.

They like all living things need some salt. There is some in some nectars.
I never heard that they use it to cure honey. They evaporate it down.
As for the salt block, can't hurt.
See if you can find a 1 pounder and put it out under a cover.

Some years ago when I was looking for a place in the country to buy the little woman asked what I wanted in a place. I replied it had to have two things. I had to be able to pee off the front porch and shoot my guns in the yard. Hard to find but I finally did it.
