Bees fanning away from hive

Hey all,

We discovered a very strange activity outside our backyard hive last weekend. Never saw it before. There was a set of three girls about 2ft away from the hive on the garden walk fanning away with a purpose. Another 2ft from them further up the walk and in line with them and the hive was another group of five girls doing the same thing. It was almost like they were acting as runway lights at an airport.

Anyone ever come across this?

Cheers,
Doug

No, I haven't. Were they girl bees? I know teen aged girls do some strange things, but I never saw any of them do that either.

LOL - Really? In a Beekeeping forum with a "Bees fanning..." title, I have to provide *more* context? Spit my coffee all over my monitor too!
DCH,
That's me just being me. I don't have any girls in my beehives, I have bees in them. I'm always tickled when people talk about their girls and not meaning their daughters. Then again, there are some guys who don't have children who talk about "my boys". People are funny.

No problem. I saw the humor in it. No daughters, so they are my "girls". :D

I have a couple of phots at home. Will try to post 'em tomorrow.
That would be interesting to see. May explain things.
