I just did my very first harvest (ever!) on the 21st. I left the hive with a super that was about 1/2 drawn out on and I put on another empty super when I finished harvesting. I left a ventilation gap and propped the top open for more ventilation because my bees seem to beard a lot. The hive is in an area of filtered sunlight and it really hasn't been extremely hot lately. My question is: Is it okay for all this bearding to be happening? They cover the front of the hive in the early evening, a little less during the day. Is there something else I should do for them? Thanks!

Thanks for the help and confirmation that it is normal! beemandan, that is exactly what I'm seeing. My screened bottom board just came in and I'm planning on putting it on during my next visit. Again, thanks for the help-I love this site!

Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone ever noticed feral colonies inside of a tree beard?
