New hive last summer, wintered nicely. When I last inspected 3 weeks ago they were just starting to draw in second box (top). It's been hot, even for NC -- upper 80s, low 90s. For the past 48 hours I have had a few hundred bees hanging out on the front of the hive and at the lower entrance -- less in the early a.m., but some even in the relatively cooler temperatures (70s). I am trying to hold out before I don the gear for a full inspection, as we are supposed to be seasonably cooler by the weekend. Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon in this unusually hot weather? It's not robbing -- they seem happy and calm. Thanks for your opinion --
