Bees keep the temperature of the hive and brood nest between 90- 94 degrees F. To many bees and they go out on the back porch to regulate the inside of the hive. At night when the temperature goes down some or all of the bees go back inside.

It's so hot here in Alabama that I think everyone but the queen is hanging out on the front porch!

Well to prove it here's an experiment you can do;

Get a wet towel. Tomorrow put it on that bearding hive, but not covering the entrance, but just approaching close to it, with the other part draped up the top. Refresh the water in the towel about once every 2 hours.

This is a fun experiment by the way in evaluating bearding causes.

You will be surprised at the effect it has on what you saw before the experiment.

Note; some bees can get their legs caught in towels and bed sheets, but usually not many.
