I was wandering if I could bank my old queens in the hive they were in until new queens mate and are laying. I thought about putting them in laying cages in a honey super above the brood. Will this work? Has anyone done anything similar?
Yes, you don't have to put her in a laying cage, just put a double screen between the super she is in and the bottom hive with a entrance for the top super in the back. Good luck. Jack
in my mini nucs i caged up the laying queens one year in a jzb's with candy in the cage and a cap over the end where the bees wouldn't let her out and 1 worker for company had her caged for 2-3 days before puting in ripe queen cell worked very good make sure to point the candy end down so the candy will not run onto the queen i did several and if needed i would do again.
what happen i had queen cells needing a place to go so i tryed it figured i was going to loose the cell any way.
