Ball game swarm

If you missed it, the Reds game was delayed when a swarm blew through the stadium. I was listening on the radio laughing at the play by play. Today I went and checked my trap box that’s under the suspension bridge right by the stadium. Yep, there they are. They weren’t there Monday. I don’t think it’s the same swarm, but probably from the same hive, wherever it is.

Beebeard:

This is a really neat story- have there been other swarms alight at Great American Ballpark in recent years as well?

Glad to hear you snagged (maybe) the same swarm.

It happened one other time back in the 70s. There have been a bunch of swarms I've picked up all around the stadium the past few years, this is the first one to go IN the stadium, AFAIK. definitely the first time during a game. People were scattering. I work in the park right there on the river so I got permission to put a trap down there. There are so many big buildings down there, no one knows where they are coming from. A hotel restaurant had hives on a roof a few years ago, but that's further up in the business district. I've gotten swarms from that too.

That is a neat backstory, and it looks like you are literally building bridges in the community relative to the important role that beekeepers play. Not too many fans in the stands, however...
Yeah, we haven't been packing the stands lately, plus it was the middle of a weekday.

The fun swarms are the ones that land on fountain square downtown at lunch hour. News vans show up to those. Kinda fun working the crowds!

Glad to hear that you aren't intimidated by the public scrutiny- thank you for doing your part to advocate for bees (and their keepers).

Sincerely,

A St. Louis Cardinals fan
Don’t worry, I won’t hold it against you.

It certainly has been a good (and good-natured) rivalry over the years. Two good baseball towns.
Not sure if this was the same story I saw on the news, but in the story I saw, a couple beekeepers were there within minutes. I wonder if teams have some go-to beekeepers. J
