I installed a medium super of foundation only onto my strongest of two hives. I happened to have a couple of frames of honey leftover from last year and I put them into position 3 and 8. My question is, typically would they use the honey to build out the comb in the super or just leave it for stores?

It depends where you put the honey. If you put the honey in a honey storage location, likely they will just leave it as stores.

If you place the honey below the brood, or put honey between frames of brood, the bees will move it around. If they need to draw comb to have a place to put the honey, they will use the honey they are eating to draw comb.

I put the frames of honey in the new super above the queen excluder. I also installed an upper entrance at the same time with spacers between the excluder and the super.
