Apiguard - where in hive?

I have been using a half dose (25ml) in my hives, every week for at least two weeks, since it has been hot (90F+). Closed off the screen bottom boards, no entrance reducers.
I am not clear where to put the shim and Apiguard. In reading, mostly from Randy, it sounds like it is best in the middle of brood. Several friends of mine have been putting it on top of the hive, which has some honey for the bees on it, which would be much easier. Thymol is heaver than air, so I would think the top would be ok.
What do you think?
I do have a lot of comb now in the shim space. That’s what I get for using cheap 1X4 lath to make the shims - too much space, but they would fill smaller spaces too.

I've been doing Apiguard Gel in the summers and OAV in the winter for several years now with excellent results. Like you, I do a half dose each time due to the hot Texas summers here. I use a 1X4 homemade shim on top and put the gel on top. I close off the screen bottom boards and put on robbing screens on the entrance. Works good for me.

Good luck,
Dave
Randy Oliver seems to have changed his thinking on the best way to use Apiguard:

To cut to the chase, he recommends using 50ML on the top of the hive with a shim. I have been using that method for a few years with good results. He says you can use this method up to 105 degrees.

Thanks! Somehow I missed that. It will make my life a bit easier.
