I was thinking whether to treat this colony which had 24 hour mite count of around 100 for the past month. Last Thursday I started Api Life Var Since then temps have been in the upper 80's. Bees are bearding a lot. I see a lot of bees hanging outside than usual. No other side effects. I can smell thymol 6 feet away.

Mite drop after the first 24 hours 135
Mite drop after the second 24 hours 765
I am glad that I treated this hive.

Thank you. I never thought there were so many mites as mite drop was not that high. I think without the treatment, this hive was doomed. I will post the next 24 hour count today.

The count today was 163. I wonder whether most of the mites who were sticking to bees have already fallen and now it is the ones who are emerging from brood that keeps falling. As I have 2 more treatments to go (roughly 21 days), all the capped brood will emerge by then and mites in them will get killed. Also temperature is down today only 72. It also must have an effect as at higher temperatures more thymol evaporates.
