One of my hives swarmed (as I mentioned in an earlier post) on Monday; today is Thursday. In that time, the gang has clustered onto a tall stump in my front yard and has stayed there -- despite night temps hovering at/below 40 degrees F, and (!) a day-and-a-half of rain, and gray otherwise. I already had 4 swarm traps around the yard, and placed 1 more (2 nucs together, with some old comb, empty frames, lemongrass oil) adjacent to the swarm (yest. morning). At first they seemed curious, but now .... not much interest. I even added a frame feeder with some syrup this a.m. to tempt 'em. There was a little uptick in bees exploring then.
OK; so .... isn't 3 days a long time for a swarm to stay homeless? Could it be they don't wanna be so close to their original digs, but haven't found anything better elsewhere yet? :s
Does anybody have an anecdote re: a lengthy time they've seen a swarm stay-put?
Thx for any feedback ....
Mitch
