Hi all. Was out visiting the hives in Steuben County, NY and noticed this activity on my hives. This was taken a few days ago. It was on 2 of the three hives. There is an electric fence around the yard, but it was probably shorted by the snow. This upper entrance is about waist high. The other hive entrance is two supers higher. This particular yard was pretty hot last year, so wondering if this damage is more indicative of a persistent problem. Any thoughts would be great.

My guess would be racoons. The claw markings look about the right size, and they'll climb up on hives of that height with no issues.

Nightly visits from predators can make otherwise calm colonies a bit testy. That looks too high to be skunks, probably a raccoon or possum. You may want to pick up a live trap and see if you can relocate your problem(s) to a new location several miles away.
