I have six hives relatively close together, and one of them (I think only one) is sending out guard bees up to 50 feet. Stung a visitor (my bee mentor) who had stopped by for a look. I get quite a few visitors to the beeyard and it would be poor form if they started getting stung. I am pretty far north (Maine) and isolated (island off the coast) with local queens, so this is not likely to be AHB.
Is there a way to determine which hive is sending out these guard bees? It is as simple as opening up the hives and seeing which one responds particularly agressively?
If I can figure out which hive is the culprit I will re-queen.
Thanks for any advice.
