Wondering if I can get some advise; this is my first year and am trying to finalize my set-up here in CT.
I bought some used gear and have telescoping covers and some betterbee shims (1.5”). I want to use top entrances and am trying to use what I have on hand. I have read a number of posts about top entrances and telescoping covers and most end with the person moving to migratory covers or treating it as one (i.e. sliding it back).
My thought is this. The telescoping cover overhangs by 1.5”, the same height as the BB shim. So, if I use the M. Bush top entrance of cheap wood shims under the BB shim and throw the cover over that, the bees could fly right in as though the cover isn’t overhanging. Would this leave me with a mess of burr comb?
I am prepared for the “quit being ridiculous and just make some covers out of ¾” ply and call it a day” and I may end up doing just that.
