Hey guys! I made my first batch of mead (melomel) about a month ago with some summer fruits. I went to rack it today and saw the fruits had turned this gross grey colour. It smelled normal so I racked it anyway but I have a feeling I’m going to need to make another batch not adding the fruit...

Last weekend I helped out a gentleman who had two supers that needed extraction. They have been on his hive for several years and much of the honey was crystallized in the cells. I'm surprised we got a gallon finally since not much spun out in the extractor. A lot of the comb was pretty dark...

A few hundred people, at least, have tasted my mead without complaint, so this recipe works. Since my yeast usually dies of alcohol poisoning, no one notices it's bread yeast. That's my theory. For 1 gallon, 3 lbs honey, spring water to make a gallon (about 3 quarts, peel of 2 small lemons -...

After a year of listening to my step-dad's exploits with bees, I just couldn't resist getting into it. I have six Italian extremely docile hives in Carpinteria, CA at the moment. I'm probably going to disperse them to several friends' places throughout the county. I'm excited to learn more...

Does anyone know the process for testing water before one makes a batch of mead? I know that PH is important, are there any other variables that need to be considered as well?

I was removing a colony from a sprinkler box at the end of October. When I opened the lid the combs were broken exposing the honey in some capped cells which appeared to be fermenting. Was this really fermenting or are the bubbles caused by something else? In my experience bees don't usually...
