Hi all, just got 3.5 tons of pro sweet from Kelleys/mannlake in Clarkson KY. The price is 38 cents a 100lb. Cheaper if you buy alot more. The folks at Kelleys like Jennifer, Paul, and Kathryn are great folks and are very helpful and treat you like family. Pro sweet is thick like honey and it is...

I am just entering my second year of beekeeping and trying a few new things. One is using a hive top feeder like this one from PerfectBee: https://store.perfectbee.com/collections/feeders/products/hive-top-feeder-with-floats (it's a Brushy Mountain feeder, since PerfectBee is a dealer, but I...
  3. Equipment/Hardware
I have built a top feeder in which the wooden hive box creates a reservoir for the syrup. Can I use a wood waterproof sealant on the inside of the box? I am wondering if it would harm the bees since the sugar syrup would be in contact with the sealant.

Had feeder not working properly. Bees managed to crawl under, inside and drowned. Is it safe to re-use this syrup in a different feeder ?? Thank you

Good afternoon. Need advice on the best way to feed the TBH. I just built four from the Bee Thinking plans and they are awesome! Bee thinking sells the bottles in a tray. Is that the only way? Are there any that resembled the shape of the hive ends? thx

As I was waiting for some glue up, and organizing the scraps all around I though of making this as a "raft". I hear bee may drown in the sirup. I have seen device with screens on top so they can walk down for a drink. Would this raft help? It is about 3/16" thick. Or should it be covered with a...

I've just been given my first hive. It is a queenless split (2 frames each of egg, brood, and nectar/pollen/honey and a good complement of nurse bees) from a friend. It was suggested that I feed them for a while at least until they get established. I'm feeding them with a feeder that is sitting...

Anyone have any good tips/tricks for filling internal feeders? I was thinking a watering can. The feeder holds a gallon, but i know from years of drinking milk. Milk jugs don't always pour well. Suggestions?

I've been reading about feeding bees for the fall and fall/pre-winter management. I've been getting alot of opinions, viewpoints, etc, and some are conflicting. I live in Central Mississippi so winters are not severe and have nine hives. My goal was to get all established and healthy this...

Hi, My wife and I are brand new keepers anxiously awaiting for the phone call that our two nucs from the local association are ready. Until then all I can do is stare at my two beautiful hives sitting in my workshop, make sure my equipment is ready to go and read, read, read. All of the...

This is my first year beekeeping. It has been a dream of mine for quite some time, and remained so, due to the fact that the startup costs were too much for me. Well, this year I managed to scrape up enough to get started with 5 colonies. A little about me: I live in west central Iowa on a...
