bumble bees

I am interested in keeping bees on a small scale, would it be possible to keep a bumble bee nest? I have seen several instructional videos and it would appear that doing so would be simple and cheap. What I'd really like to know is if this is a realistic venture. What is the success rate...

Just an observation, but this spring in south central Massachusetts, I am seeing a lot of bumble bees. More than usual and others who are not beekeepers have also mentioned it . Is this observed anywhere else? Is there a correlation between bumble bee and honey bees? Opinions please.
