Well it seems that most of the authors and books are from the 1800s or at least most of them are from prior to 1922 placing them squarely in the public domain. However, it still helps to have some recommendations.

I am using CALIBRE to curate my library, and getting what I can find from the various depots of public domain. Project Gutenberg, and The internet Archive and Cornell University and some lesser known places as well.

Calibre is free and available here : https://calibre-ebook.com/help in case anyone cares.

If anyone is interested in the list after I am done, I will be happy to share it.

Kind of looks like this so far, unfortunately there is not an easy way to dump this list, since I have lots of other stuff in there, and though I can search in the app, there is no way to copy that list out. :):

A few years ago, a guy in Pennsylvania listed over 700 beekeeping books for sale on Ebay. He had a VERY extensive collection. I had agreed to buy the books when his daughter contacted me to say that he was backing out of the transaction and selling the books to a local friend instead. The books were all unique with no duplicates and none of them were magazines. That said, I have at least a thousand Gleanings and ABJ issues plus another 100 or so other beekeeping books.

I read the "Hive and the Honey bee" a few times in the 70's was all I had,, for the first 8-10 years except my Dad and Grandpa.
I did successfully have a 2 queen hive in the late 70's 79 i think give 400lb of honey one season.

Books are a good way, most folks now want answers immediately and prefer not to read nowadays.

I'm currently reading François Huber's Nouvelles Observations sur les Abeilles. Re-edited in many languages thanks to Michael Bush. A great insight into a great mind.

Also, in it I have found this little nugget of information, that a queen mated after 20 days is actually not fertilized (or in Huber's words, lays only drone eggs). I have not read that anywhere else. Can anyone with a more extensive bee culture confirm it?
