Hey all I am familiar with shipping a couple dozen to 100 queens at a time but I have never shipped just one or small quantities. Does anyone here have experience or insight on how to ship one relatively safely and without going all Rightway shipper box about it?
Hi Kamon - I've received small orders in small USPS boxes, the kind that is free at the Post Office. The wooden queen cages were glued directly to cardboard in the box. The boxes had a few ventilation holes drilled in it. The queens survived and did fine.
I've done it in priority over night envelops. I put a strip of packing tape on one side in the inside of the envelop, in order to give a smooth surface to then tape the queen cages to. Just taping the queen cages to the inside of the envelop does not hold well enough. Hope that makes sense. I then punch some holes in the envelop and mark on it LIVE QUEEN BEES and ship it. I like to also mark it Hold at P.O. and Call recipient to pick up. That helps prevent hot drive to the final destination or sitting in mail box or on porch waiting to be noticed by the recipient.
I recieved a couple queens last year in a priority over night envelope like Ray said . Plastic queen cages were taped with that narrow super strong reinforced packing tape in the middle of the envelope. Two rows of holes punched in the perimeter on both ends and bottom of the envelope.
