    Default Strange activity

I keep all my unused equipment in a garage with out doors. There is a ton of bee activity in the garage and the bees are attacking and killing each other. I have checked all the empty equipment and there is nothing but empty comb. At first I thought a swarm was moving in but now with the fighting I am lost. Any ideas?

Just comb will call them if they’re desperate. You must be in a dearth.

I had a similar situation last year except all the empties were in hive boxes. Thought I had a swarm moving in but they were acting like the aggressive frenzy you see w/ open feeding.

My conclusion was that I was probably getting water condensate--like morning dew--on the frames and residual dried sugars from the previous honey was sweetening it a little. After a week or so it died down.

I had my fingers crossed for a swarm. Thanks for the info.

Should I block off entrances or just let it ride?

I’d stopper up most of it and set a few boxes, if it is scouts that’s squabbling they’ll be attracted to them and not risk having unknown bees contaminating your equipment (I always quarantine swarms for a month or so).
