Default Long Langstroth Hive - New bee keeper

    Hi,

We live in Maine and am thinking about getting bees. We've looked at Langstroth hives and Long Langstroth Hive. I'm more inclined to Long Langstroth Hive due to being able to build them more easily and less disturbance to the bees and ease of access.

I'm looking at this plan here: https://horizontalhive.com/how-to-bu...th-plans.shtml
I'd add insulation on the underneath during the winter and insulate the top (if recommended).

    Looking for thoughts on this,

Take a look at this design.

Here it is bees in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30pHIZ8pR_8

The parts of that design that I like best is the inner cover design and the way they rest in the hive top as well as the queen excluder and division board design. I would take the plans from the site you linked and modify then so that they use inner covers like the design in the video.
