OK, so long story short, Apivar is grossly over priced. At $3 per strip, and $12-15 per colony for a single treatment, it's the most expensive mite treatment available.
However, this doesn't have to be the case. One can simply make their own Apivar strips.
One can purchase Taktic/Amitraz, enough to make 1000 strips for approximately $100.
The question is now: how to make the time released strips, or material to place in the hives?
Are there any insiders here who work for Apivar or Mann lake, or another bee keeping company who know what type of material the apivar strips contain?
Edit. This is just a "theoretical discussion" on how to save a bunch of $$$$$.
Perhaps a local beekeeping supply store will see this thread, and realize how easy it is to make apivar strips, and then make a competitor product that charges only $1 per strip.
