Removing Supers...

What's the best way to remove 2 supers of honey...

I've done 1 by simply pulling each frame and shaking the bees off and placing them in a empty super box in a wheel barrow and wheeling them to my garage...

This is limited time messing with them...

But, I don't know that I can do 2 supers the same way. This is the first year I have had 2 supers of honey on one box/colony...

I have a triangle escape board that I have found works well. My process is:

1. Put on the triangle escape board (on my big hive that I took 4 supers off, I reduced it 2 boxes at a time)
2. Wait about 48 hours
3. take an extra medium box out to the hive and 2 covers for the box (I used one lid and one chunk of polycarb)
4. Remove 1 frame, bush off the 5-10 bees on that frame, and put it in the storage box. I only remove the top cover for a few seconds to insert the frame
5. Repeat until the storage box is full. Brush the bees off the now empty box on the hive and stack on the storage box
6. Repeat steps 3-5
7. Extract

I use a bee brush to brush all of the bees off. You can also remove one frame, bush it off, move it to an empty box, and repeat. I found the escape board was easier than trying to brush a 1000 bees off of a frame.

If you don't mind spending a few dollars purchase a fume board and a bottle of Bee Quick. Using this will drive most of the bees right down out of the supers and you can remove the entire box empty of bees.

I got a bottle of Bee Quick and am using it with a bee escape...

Works well so far...
