Opened one of my hives a few weeks back and found a bunch of these on the inner cover. All black bees even the wings... but all my hives are the usual tan/brown Carniolans. Wild Robbers? Oddballs? Seem to have moved on....blackbee.jpg

I am no expert, but I am wondering if it is something in the fly family rather than the bee family. The pic looks more like a fly than a bee to me.

Like Elmer said, it does sort of look like a fly. Where I am located we have Carpenter Bees that are all black. I did a search on line for black bees, got this image of a carpenter bee. black bee.jpg
Some days it's not even worth chewing through the restraints.
