Default Another new member from California

He everyone, I am a retired Woodshop teacher living in the San Francisco Bay area. About 3 years ago my stepdaughter Ada and her dad set up a hive in our yard and when she moved out I decided that it was too much trouble and I wasn't going to keep them. Before Ada's dad could come over and pick them up the bees disappeared so I removed the few frames with honey and haphazardly reassembled the hive. It sat empty until June 3rd when a swarm of bees moved into the hive. I had been too busy to deal with them and then about 3 weeks ago I almost stepped on another swarm that had landed in my yard. I gathered them up and put them in 2 supers from the old hive and I decided that it was time to start learning how to keep bees.

Welcome to Beesource. Break out the table saw and get busy! Looks like the bees chose you to become a beekeeper. How awesome is that?
Thankfully, the bees are smarter than I am. They are doing well, in spite of my efforts to help them.

Send some swarms down to Santa Cruz. I haven’t seen a one.
