Good ole hot water and steel wool works well at getting the gunk off my extractor.

I have had good luck burning my hive tools clean. Probably not a great solution for a extractor though

Try a Sodium Hydroxide-based oven cleaner - like Mr. Muscle. Works a treat at dissolving propolis on any surface which won't be damaged by NaOH. You may need to help the foam work by the use of a scouring pad. If so - do wear gloves !
