Default Bee source data breach ?

I just received ransom spam form a party in possession of my Beesource password, claiming it's my computer password (it's not)
Did this happen to anyone else? Just a coundinace?
    Hello,

I know your password: its (my bee sorce password)

I infected your computer with my private malware some time ago.

It gave me full control over your computer, all your contacts and accounts, I can even turn your webcam and microphone on.

I collected all your private pictures, videos, contacts, everything!

I MADE A VIDEO showing you (through your webcam) WHILE MASTRUBATING!!!

What you think will happen, if everyone of your contacts, on social network, and everyone else will see all your private stuff togheter with my recorded videos of you?!

I think your life won't be the same ever again!

I give you the chance to pay me 800$ with bitcoin.

If you don't know where to buy them - Google "Where to buy bitcoin?"

You masturbate while reading Beesource? That's...odd, but to each their own I guess.

It's a common shakedown going around. I haven't gotten it yet and don't expect to. Is this the only place you use that password?

I use Linux and don't get those sort of things and know if I do they are total BS.

Do you know how to spell SCAM? .. but then if they described your actions well, then pay the 800 and wait for the next demand.

    This is the concerning part.

There's a bunch of different ways to get your Beesource password. A lookalike site to Beesource that grabs your password when you try to log in. Keystroke loggers (malware) that harvest everything you type and periodically upload a file to someplace. Various browser extensions and tools that contain malware and grab password and usernames to various sites. If the password isn't unique to your Beesource login credentials, it could have been harvested from a malware site that you visited elsewhere.

Everyone I know has gotten the same message usually in a .jpg graphic but without any password specified. They spoof your own email address and count on you not knowing that anyone can spoof any email address.

The Beesource password is new, but the wording of the email is just a rehash of that sextortion one I've had probably 20 times claiming to have filmed me performing nasty acts while watching porn.

If Beesource was hacked, we would expect to see more Beesource members get this email. If that doesn't happen, the breach is somewhere else MSL, would pay to check your own computer security, or think through where else you may have used the password.

Just a word of warning to anyone getting an email like this, a case was reported in my local paper of someone who got a similar email and decided to pay the $1,000 asked. That was not the end of the matter though, he then got a reply email asking for $2,000, which he also paid. He then got a reply email asking for $4,000, at which point he went to the police. He was told not to pay and he didn't. He then recieved a series of threatening emails, but in the end, no video of him ever surfaced.

If you have had such an email and are considering paying, don't. There is no video of you. And the only reason these people keep sending these emails is because enough people do pay, to keep these scammers in business.

Years ago my computer guy told me to keep the cam covered, and I've done that ever since. And would be my advice to everyone.

Yup, logically I don't understand why this is a Beesource issue. Maybe I don't see something but common sense indicates that the problem is elsewhere. If it makes you feel better than change your password but your real attention should be on your PC (unfortunately probably Windows) and the sites your visited (check your history which should be a common task).

Browsing...like driving...is a privilege and should be respected. Go to shady sites, get shady experiences.
