Queen Susceptibility to Winter Suffocation ?

Any thoughts of whether queens might be harmed at a lower degree of suffocation stress compared to workers. I had colony losses that appear possibly to have lost the queen and with no start of brood up the colony perished. Pure conjecture on that point. I do know they got badly snowed in by hard drifted snow. They wound up in wells 4 feet deep with no place to shovel the snow and were like that for a few days on several occasions. So much for the experiment without upper ventilation but super insulated! The bees were doing fine (until they weren't)

Haven't been able to search up anything in this regard or what such a deadout appearance would be. I would be happy to know conclusively that it was my bad, rather than some unknown virus or bacteria.
