    Default Old frames new foundation??

In the name of cutting costs does/has anyone used their old frames and just installed new foundation instead of tossing the entire thing and starting completely new? Iím only Running 3-5 hives...

Absolutely. And I only rip out the comb if it's damaged by wax moths, etc. Otherwise, just use the old frame. I'm installing new foundation in a bunch of used frames this weekend.

IF you think they’re questionable you could boil the frame to kill anything on/in it.

Most commercial outfits have frames that have been used a couple generations or more.

I have frames I have used since 1974 ( they have the date on them) and I have frames most likley much older .
When I take the old foundation out I boil the frames to get them clean and then soak them in a bleach solution and they are as good as new.

Thumbs Up Re: Old frames new foundation??

I find the bees like drawing old frames over new frames. I just run a torch over them before putting in new foundation.

I run foundationless, but make my frames to last forever - I'd be well choked if I had to make new ones each time the comb was renewed ...

1 lb. lye to 10 gal water., heat to 190F, soak for 5 minutes, hose off frames in fresh water and let dry. Frames clean up looking like almost new. Always add the lye to water, never other way around.
