Default Honey to attract bees to a water source

Has anyone tried mixing some honey into a water source to try and encourage bees to use a specific water source? I was thinking maybe a table spoon of honey in a gallon of water. I know bees are attracted to unguarded honey and will rob out empty frames, so I am thinking they may be drawn to honey scented water.

Would this work? Would I end up with a hive filled with honey flavored water? Would the bees just ignore it?

I've done this in the past. I'd put a spoonful of honey into a bird bath type feeder. I don't know if it helped or not, but bees used it.

I put a spoonful of honey on a piece of board floating on my water source. Replenished it several times throughout that day, and they kept on using the water after that.
