    Vance G,
Not sure where you stand on the issue. Could you clarify?

You do not believe, that gives you some sort of an excuse. I believe and do not do much about it, that makes me some sort of a hypocrite.
The earth does change with or without modern man. Warmer is better? Probably true some places some times. Not on my home turf, not in my lakes, not in my bays.

I was not happy when lead was taken out of paint, lead solder was great stuff, asbestos was no big deal, just part of the job.
Life will still be pretty good after it is different.

As A dumb denier I can see why the others like climate change cause no matter which way the weather changes it can always be blamed on climate change even though the climate has been changing on this planet for millions of years of which the human specie has been around for a mere 20,000 years, bees again have fossils aged to around 40 million years and a bee preserved in amber 14 million years so I guess bees know more about climate change than we do. Way back there used to be a land bridge joining England to Ireland and guess what the sea level rose thousands of years ago and it is no longer there. In the South of England in about the 10th century estates changed hands to settle debts and when the new owners traveled to see their new holdings found them to be under the ocean so the land is a moving object some are growing and some are sinking and as some comic lion mentioned it is the circle of life. And as for that guy who tells lies I suppose he said if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor and we are going to make medical costs cheaper. Come to think of it Politics is derived from the Greek word Poly which means many sided and tick which is a blood sucking insect. Further more I have built a vaporizer that has dealt with mites but I have a greater number of customers who have asked me to build a vaporizer that you just point at a politician which makes him disappear so when I get that right I will make a fortune.

There is only one "have to" in this world, and we all know what that is.

I can't say if it was the right thing, but I'm pretty sure they would have died if I didn't. It was a "one off". I've never seen it that hot since.

We need to be good stewards of our earth; lead, asbestos, plastics in our yards and ocean, agricultural chemicals that persist in soil, mercury in light bulbs, fumes from autos/smokestacks are all things we CAN control. Call it climate change or global warming; we CANNOT stop. One volcano eruption will change the climate more than all the cows in Texas.

I am a big time believer that keeping gramma off the road thru confiscatory fuel price is not productive or moral. Or making her live in a cold house because fretful imaginings profit the ALGOREs of the world. Of hugely subsidizing solar and wind and shutting down clean coal to price energy to uncomfortable levels. There is always climate change! Untill 1998 it was warming but no warming since then if it matters, so maybe global warming is passe. There is plate techtonic change. Their is duodecal ossilation of the planet change that largely determines climate trends. There is cyclic changes of Sols radiation. Think Maunder Minimum, mass starvation from failing crops and plague killing half the rest from suppressed immunity. Revolution and mass migrations. Apparently my spelling has slipped but that is not the point. Is it?

Moved to north Texas in 1992 and never saw a snowflake for ten years, then it snowed every year for the next twelve. The Bradford pear tree's would bloom between the first of Feb. and valentine's day every year until the last three years I lived there and then they never bloomed before March first. My first year back in PA. the winter of 14/15 was so cold it never got above freezing the whole month of Feb. There was still ice on lake Erie in June. The next year it snowed in May, first time I ever experienced that. This last year it never warmed up until May and then it went right to summer. After hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans all the predictions were for more big storms, but there was then over ten years before a major hurricane would again hit the U.S. Read a book in the seventies called the "Population Bomb" real scary, doom and gloom stuff. About the only thing that turned out to be true was the actual increase in population, the predicted disaster never happened. I believe the guy who wrote the book now is an advisor on the U.N. climate change panel. Climate change does happen, whether Man is responsible in a way we can control on a world wide scale I am highly doubtful, but even if we are, I would rather just deal with the consequences, since I am even more certain that the effects of a warming planet can not be determined.

koffee klatch is where I go to loose respect for people. I can't believe how smart some people are about bees and how willfully ignorant they are about other things. Hur Dur it's cold outside! Global warming is a conspiracy! Give me a break.

Really just an argument of whom is doing whom. (who?)

The whole argument about climate change is to change the way that I and other common people live except of course for the proponents like keeping the thermostat at 80 in the White House and walking around there in shirt sleeves. This being cold in winter and hot in summer is for the peasants like some of us not for the ruling classholes. It appears to me that the overall cure for this global warming malady is to separate the common man from his money to be re distributed to anothers voting class so that they will all vote for Santa next election go round. There is also no doubt that this ploy is also being used to advance the cause of global socialism. And then there is also the Denier connotation meant just like deplorable to be insulting to opponents because if you have difficulty with the debate you would then try to attack the source of the resistance. I could go on and on about how I spent my misguided youth buffing out metal vessels that contained mercury spent a great deal of time sand papering the electrical arc residue of off of asbestos arc chutes spent quite a bit of time doing cable joints on lead sheathed paper cables not to mention built 2 homes with my own hands using corrugated asbestos for the roofing materiel which have to be mitered on the edges to overlap each other and was done with an angle grinder. surely all this dangerous stuff must have shortened my life but as I am now 75 I am not going to worry about it.

I think cheap and plentiful natural gas is what killed the coal industry. It still has emissions but doesn't leave tons of coal ash which is quite poisonous. I don't think clean coal is a thing. I also think there may be unintended consequences from fracking that we have yet to discover.

Subsidies for solar and wind allowed huge improvements in the technologies. It used to take a solar panel about 10 years to produce the amount of electricity it took to manufacture it. Now it takes about 3 years. High quality solar panels come with a 25 year warranty. I understand we can't get all of our electricity from wind and solar. I want electricity when the sun isn't shining or the isn't blowing but they should be part of the grid.

Our government uses taxes to push people to do things they want. In the 1960s over 50% of the population smoked. They taxed cigarettes to the point that less than 25% smoke now. They allow us to write off the money we pay a bank for mortgage interest but we can't write off the money we pay to a farmer for food.

I am a railfan. Here in Chicago between the BNSF and UP railroads there are 50 coal trains a day. They come from WY and MT. I don't know how many are for IL power plants and how many are just passing through.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying here. Gasoline prices are determined by our capitalist system. Charge the highest price the market will bear. Our older citizens get a lot of pressures once they stop earning. Property taxes make it so they can no longer afford to live in their family home. Social security and Medicare are attempts to help them.

I agree. I also think society causes measurable contributions to the problem and we should do what we can to improve it.

THAT is so very wrong! That is what he is talking about in the next quote you say you don't understand. Gas taxes -- heck, some states are already considering mileage taxes for using the roads. Raising taxes or giving tax breaks to for policy is the very definition of confiscatory.

    confiscatory
    adjective

    Relating to or effecting confiscation.
Being or imposing an excessive or unreasonable tax or cost: confiscatory taxes; a confiscatory police.

In the words of William Wallace: FREEDOM!

Yet so many stand by the motto: for thee but not for me. Some can have mansions with a larger footprint than my entire neighborhood surrounded by walls and pay themselves indulgences called offsets (which is where Algore gets his wealth) and fly around in private jets telling us plebs we gotta ride bicycles and live in multi-family dwellings with the no air conditioning and wear sweaters in the comfort of our own homes.....

Do you also need a definition of hypocrisy?

For all our faults I consider myself very lucky I was born here.
