    I read the same article and it would be good if they found something to kill mites instead. I think the key to AFB is detection and removal of especially the queen from the gene pool. I have talked to too many old commercial beeks who say that various bee strains have resistance to AFB or maybe they are just better hygenic stock who remove the infected larvae before it becomes a sea of soup. My first Mentor an 85 year old gentleman who was still actively keeping his couple thousand colonies in the early seventies practiced this AFB cure. He put badly infected frames in the burn pile, killed the queen and put the rest of the colony and equipment on the top of his strongest hive in the yard. You didn't see much AFB in the ancient black frames he was running and are probably still running in that operation.
