Default How to best utilize Bulk Tank

    Hi All,

I've recently acquired an insulated milk bulk tank with mixing paddle (for free). About 225 gal large.

Assuming the paddle works and I can get it pumped with a temp controlled hot liquid for warming purposes- how are others utilizing these tanks? Wax melting, honey storage, syrup mixing?

My concerns with honey storage are the tank is not air tight, so can it be used for mid term storage? Any worries with moisture absorption?

Would be nice to have 1 piece of equipment for 3 different uses, but sometimes designated tools tend to work more efficiently.

    Who's been there, done that?

I have a couple tanks like that we use.

Some for settling wax before barreling,
For mixing fruit extracts with honey.

They are great, as long as you have the fittings to work with them.

You they honey will gain/lose moisture if exposed depending on the atmosphere so you just have to judge by the time of year, winter generally being less humdidty.

Or if you decide not to utilize it, let me know

    Yes.

A tank of honey at body temperature generally does not need a lid. A friendly pump is helpfull, unless you know how to use gravity, and your extracting room is above your bulk tank.
