Default Conical Bee Escape - What is the size of the exit

I am making conical bee escapes. They look like little traffic cones. I have seen them made from screen mesh and plastic. What is the size of the exit hole? I have seen everything from 6mm to 8mm. What is your preference?

I like the holes large enough that the queen and drones can get out. I guess that would be about 8mm, just under a 3/8" opening. The little wires stick down a bit and you can fine tune the hole by bending them up or down.
Thankfully, the bees are smarter than I am. They are doing well, in spite of my efforts to help them.

When I'm making them out of screen door screen to do a trap out, I like to strip a few of the cross wires so the wires are fairly close but a drone can squeeze out easily but the wires are in the way of reentering.
