That depends. 
Up to 24 hours from the timestamp of your post, you can edit your message. That includes, if you wish, replacing the content of the original message with "nothing" (OK, you do need to leave 2 characters). But the message header cannot be deleted, so it will still be apparent that there was a message in the first place.
After 24 hours, the content of a message cannot be changed, except by a moderator.
And FYI, messages that are edited within the first 10 minutes from the timestamp do not get flagged as being edited. Messages edited after 10 minutes get a "Last edited by [memberID] at [timestamp]" appended to the bottom of the message.
