    In Maryland, a state employee is training dogs to inspect hives for harmful bacteria a crucial job as honeybees are sent around the country to pollinate crops.

    That is awesome. There is a company near here that was using a dog for termite inspections. The dog found them much earlier than humans.

    Absolutely a great use of canines. If they can seek out tightly packaged opiates and deep cancers, why not foul-brood?

    I wonder if they can discern a scent difference between Africanized honeybee colonies and non-Africanized honeybee colonies. Maybe they could detect a difference by smell.

    Then again, they might need hazardous duty pay for getting too close to an AFB hive.
