    Default Hello

I'm a first year beekeeper (2018) in Ohio. I have a 7 frame Lang started from a package from northern California on April 22 and a Warre' started with bees from the first colony shaken in from several frames and a locally raised queen on June 21. Both are Carniolan queens and both seem to be doing quite well so far. I am trying to manage them as naturally as I can. By this I mean that I don't introduce lab created chemicals and such. This would include buying marketed treatments like oxalic acid, fumagilin and so on. Also, I would only use a queen excluder as a means of absconding prevention for about a week. (That is the plan anyway). I'm not out to make a living raising bees or overly concerned about reaping a lot of honey. I'm just fascinated by honeybees and have found that the day the package arrived I became one of those "pet people" who likes to talk at (annoyingly) great lengths about bees. I also think of myself more as a caretaker and less of a "keeper" (the bees can leave anytime they want...what would stop them?). Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the community.
