    Default Deciding between two extractors

Trying to decide between two extractors:

The 12 frame Lyson extractor from Betterbee (model W229E)

    https://www.betterbee.com/extractors...-motorized.asp

    or

The 8/20 frame Lyson extractor from Blue Sky Bee Supply (model W230):

    https://www.blueskybeesupply.com/8-2...-w-motor-w230/

My honey supers are mediums. I don't ever anticipate having deep honey supers, so that doesn't factor in. Currently have 5 hives, all should produce honey this year. Plan to grow in coming years.

I also have 5 young children, and have many constraints on my time. Leaning toward the 8/20 just because it'll spin more at once.

The 12 frame is slightly cheaper. Betterbee has free shipping. I could drive to Blue Sky to save on shipping costs (other than gas to make the trip).

    Thoughts?

The Lega W230 has a PWM motor which makes it suitable for computer control if you want that. That and the fact you want to grow might make it better for you. The other one is smaller and not that much less expensive.

I don't have an opinion about either of these extractors. My standard recommendation, however, is to go bigger than you think you will need and you will most likely not regret it.

Agree generally with SWM;however, will you have help uncapping? The speed of the process is determined by the weakest link. You will have to put those kids to work in order to keep up with the 20 frame extractor. J

I would look at a Maxant if you only 10 framers. Or a 28 from Cowan.

Buy all the extractor you can afford. I was running 200 deeps through my Maxant before I made the jump. Took me a month to run them. Now it takes 8 hours with a 28. The uncapping is the slow part of the operation.

. Looks like I’ve read things wrong on their site. No free shipping.
