They come in handy in the recovery of certain types of swarms and for cleaning off the bee table.

I rarely ever use mine. Probably haven't used it for 2 or 3 years.

When you shake bees off a comb, there are always a few 'hangers-on' - quite literally - and a brush comes in handy then to remove them.

What if you needed to remove bees from a comb on which there were queen-cells ? Or remove bees from a grafting frame on which were queen-cells ? Shaking bees off is no longer an option in those cases - a brush is the only answer - and then it needs to be used very gently ...

I use mine every day. Brushing bees off combs. With a little smoke...brushing those bees that have spilled out of the top of the hive, so I can't put the next box on. My hive tool lives in my back-right pocket. My brush is in my back-left. Always.

I got a really cool bee brush in Veracruz....Horse Hair. Nice.

For anyone who really can't see the point of using a bee-brush, check out the three Youtube videos showing Yasmin Zwinz at work - there's a good example of bee-brushing right at the start of the second video if you're pushed for time - but all 3 videos are well-worth watching. A great pity they're in German, without English subtitles.

She has 30 hives and keeps bees in Austria. Very cool lady. She is the youngest "bee queen" of the beekeepers association, a title, has a beekeeping degree and gives courses.
