Default Do you do anything about dead bees on the bottom board?

Just looking for tips. GregV said he sweeps out when he gets a chance, but not as a primary effort.

My bees are building back up right now, unfortunately will be 3 cold rainy days in a row, however when I opened up the hive last week I swept out a good amount of dead bees, but did not go under the last 6 or so brood bars.

When I look in the entrance, I definitely see a pile of bees, up to the bottom of the first comb, which I assume continues under the others.

Will they typically eventually get to cleaning all this up, or might it remain there? Last year was my first year, and I was amazed at how pristine they kept the bottom.

This year, it now looks like they have become slobs...

    Thanks.

They should clean it up themselves. I never bother to do it for them. They may just be waiting for the rain to stop. If they continue to not clean up, I'd look for an underlying problem.

    (2nd year expert here)
If I've got the hive open anyway, and see dead bees or other debris on the bottom board, I'll clean it off.
I haven't made any hive dives specifically to help them clean up.

FYI, with greater numbers now and much warmer weather, I am seeing a lot more cleanup going on.

    That's great!

I generally don't clean up unless it's a dead out. This year I gave a treatment (MAQS) that killed a lot of bees and I cleaned a bunch out but they took care of the rest easily after the treatment.
