    Default New Keeper in Iowa

    Hello everyone!

I am a new hive owner, thus the name Haver not keeper, haha. I don't know enough yet to be successful, but I am trying to learn as much as I can.

I am from a small town outside the Quad Cities, which lies on the border of Illinois and Iowa. This is my first hive and I am a little nervous about it. I want to do right by the bees! I plan on going the scientific route because I figure if I take medicine when I am sick, I shouldn't deny that to my bees. I have a 10 frame Langstroth that I am keeping at a friends house because my city ordinances do not allow it. He lives near a nursery and an outdoor gardening store, so I figure they might have access to some good food. I hope to expand in the future to more hives, and maybe even try to get my town to overturn the ordinance (I know, its a tall dream).

This surely is not going to be the easiest hobby, but from the first time I visited a hive, I was hooked.

Anyway, if anyone lives nearby, feel free to throw me a DM. Meeting new people with similar hobbies is always good!

Nope, you've got it all backwards. You don't own bees, they own you.

But welcome to the forums all the same! I hope you have to petition the moderators to change your user name this time next spring.

    Have fun with your bees!
